08 Veiled
Glory/Royal Academy colt |
"LESTER"
Yearling colt by Royal Academy
out of Veiled Glory.
Half-brother to G2 stakes winner Major
Success. Strong, muscular colt. January colt!
Veil Dance (dam of Veiled
Glory)
is one of those wonderful mares that
throws runner after runner--not always
stakes winners, but most have earned
over $100,000. Her son, Major
Success, was a Breeder’s Cup quality
sprinter. Bobby Frankel trained him and
spoke very highly of him. He was
actually in the Vegas future Derby pool
after he broke his maiden, and was in
the Daily Racing Form’s top 5 sprinters
until he was injured. Another son,
Dance Thief, was 2nd in
the Williard Proctor Stakes at Hollywood
Park in his first start as a 2-year-old.
He then ran 2nd to Roman
Ruler in his next start (MSW) and then
ran 2nd to Lost in the Fog in
his third start (MSW)--how’s that for
hooking tough maiden races!!! He became
very ill, almost died, and never
realized his full potential, but was
obvious stakes quality. A daughter of
Veil Dance, a runner in Japan was
also stakes placed over there. Major
Success brought $100,000 as a
yearling and then brought $200,000 as
2-year-old. Dance Thief brought
$55,000 as a yearling and was resold for
$180,000. A Buddha filly out of Veil
Dance brought $75,000 privately.
Another filly, Veiled Glory, was
bought back at the 2-year–old sale for
$52,000. Veil Dance is a ¾
sister to Corporate Report (he
won a nice little race at Saratoga
called the Travers!!!)
Veiled Glory
injured her back as a yearling (a fall),
but it was not diagnosed until her
2-year-old year. She was prepped for the
2-year-old in-training sales. At the
workout show, it started raining right
before her work, turning the track to
slop. She had the back injury, so she
wasn’t 100% and the rider hit her
several times (which she hated and he
had been warned about!) STILL, she went
in 10.3 for the 1/8!! Thus, she had the
speed—the back injury prevented her from
racing though.
The
colt pictured here is by Royal
Academy and out of Veiled Glory.
He has turned out to be the
combination conformationally that we
were hoping for when we planned the
mating. Veiled Glory is a stocky
quarter-horse type; Royal Academy
in a very leggy, elegant stallion. The
resulting colt is powerfully built like
his mom, but bigger and more elegant. He
is, however, very quick in the paddock.
He also has a great personality--smart
but tough.
