Photo Album
Personality:
Josie loves people, cats
and ponies. She adores
one of our little
Shetlands and runs over
to the fence to get
kisses from the pony.
She is also very
persuasive in getting a
couple of our cats to
groom her and clean her
face. She loves deep
muscle massages and
groans with pleasure
when she gets them. She
is the alpha dog of our
family, mostly because
she was first. She
always wants to please;
however, she is not the
“cuddle-hog” that the
other two Russells are.
Josie rarely barks—we
wondered for awhile
whether she even had the
ability! Josie grew up
around only cats for the
first couple of years
when she was our only
dog, and sometimes she
thinks that she is a cat
herself. She prefers dry
cat food to canned dog
food! She is the mouser
in the group and
sometimes joins in with
the barn cats to stalk
field mice. Josie has
proven to be a wonderful
little mother, but is
not overly protective in
that she trusts us, our
other dogs, and our cats
to play with her young
puppies while she keeps
a close eye on things.
Conformation:
Josie is small, but
muscular. She has
incredible muscle
definition and
especially nice thighs!
She has nicely folded
ears and beautiful,
expressive, soulful
eyes. Though she is
quite short-legged, her
legs are very good
(minimal curvature), and
her head and chest are
in proportion with her
size.
Coat:
Josie has a typical coat
for a smooth-coated
Russell Terrier in terms
of hair length, density,
and texture. Her color
is white with deep, rich
reddish-brown markings.
She has less white than
the ideal standard
describes (eg, she is
only slightly more than
50% white), but her
brown markings are of
such a rich color that
most people find her
coat very attractive.

Lola’s
Photo Album
Personality:
Lola is like a stuffed
teddy-bear or ragdoll.
She is very laid-back
and loves to cuddle. She
prefers to fall asleep
on my stomach or tucked
in close beside me on
her back. She is also
the dog most likely to
stay right by my side
when I am working in the
horse barn or gardening.
The other dogs might
eventually go off to
investigate other things
after awhile, but Lola
never her leaves her
“human”. However, she is
the ball chaser in the
family, and is clever
enough to win out
against our Italian
Greyhound by cutting
corners. She also
always wins the toy
tug-o-war played between
the dogs. She loves
games. She also loves to
grab at the water spray
as it shoots out of the
garden hose. Lola has
the biggest appetite of
all of our dogs. Whereas
Josie likes to go out to
watch the koi (pond
fish) when I am feeding
them, Lola likes to go
out to try and steal the
Koi’s food pellets right
out of the pond! Lola
ignores the fish; she
concentrates on stealing
their food as it is
tossed into the water.
Conformation:
This little girl has
great bone! She is
sturdy and thick-bodied.
Like Josie, she is
quite small Her ears are
heavy and folded. She has a
nice broad chest
proportionate to her
pelvis, with a straight
back.
Coat:
Lola is a smooth-coat,
but it is a heavy smooth
coat—meaning that the
hair is slightly longer
and thicker than the
common smooth coat. She
is all white except for
her ears and one side of
her face. The split face
markings in a deep rich
mahogany color are very
striking. Her eye rims
are darkly pigmented,
even on the white side
of her face, which is
highly preferred. She
also has pigment under
her lower lip, which can
give the impression that
she wears lipstick!
